What is the Universal WPC Power Board?

A single modern board that replaces Bally/Williams WPC89 (including Rev-1/WPC-S) and WPC95 power/driver assemblies. Set the jumpers and it covers all supported WPC-era titles.

Compatibility & Jumpers

Three modes: WPC89 Rev-1, WPC89 (Std/WPC-S), WPC95. Use the jumper table in the manual to set JMP1/JMP3/JMP4/JMP5, JMP9/10, WPC95 link, Blackout link, W4/W5. Only three titles use WPC89 Rev-1; most are WPC89 Std; WPC95 titles require WPC95 jumpers.

LED smoothing & lamp matrix

Lamp matrix is scanned at 240 Hz with onboard microcontroller; LED OCD not needed. You can load per-lamp brightness via USB and a CSV (115200 N81, LAMP_USB). Keep simple CSV backups for different looks.

CSV upload steps (lamp matrix)

  1. Connect USB to LAMP_USB.
  2. Open Tera Term (or similar) → select USB Serial port.
  3. Set 115200 baud, 8-N-1.
  4. Look for “*” every second to confirm link.
  5. File → Send → choose your .csv (e.g., MatrixBrightness.csv).
  6. Board applies per-lamp brightness immediately.

GI control

Five GI banks (T0–T4 pots) driven at 240 Hz DC with FETs and no triac heat sinks. Set pots to mid, enter lamp test, then balance brightness to taste.

What’s improved for flippers and coils?

MOSFET drivers replace Darlingtons for cooler, stronger coil drive. Flipper drivers are integrated—remove Fliptronics when installing.

Remove add-on boards

When installing, remove:

  • Fliptronics flipper board (not used; flipper drivers are on this board).
  • LED OCD or similar LED driver (built-in LED smoothing already).

Leaving them in-circuit can cause unreliable behavior.

Installation basics

Power off/unplug, photo old jumpers/connectors, remove old board, set jumpers for your family, mount new board, move connectors one-for-one, power on, run lamp/coil tests, adjust GI. Remove any Fliptronics or LED OCD boards—board already handles flippers and LEDs.

How do fuse LEDs help me?

Each solenoid fuse has an LED—if it stays dark in test, check/replace the fuse. Fuse ratings are printed on silkscreen; some revs correct F117/118 labels in the manual.

Troubleshooting quick hits

  • Coil dead? Run coil test; if fuse LED stays dark, check/replace fuse and connector placement.
  • GI uneven? Reseat GI connectors; tweak T0–T4 pots.
  • LEDs odd? Try a CSV with all lamps at 100% to verify; re-upload your profile.
  • No “*” over USB? Verify COM port and 115200 N81; check cable/port.
